It is believed that the earliest fabric floor coverings originated in the Orient, with Egypt being given the credit for beginning of rugs around 3000 B.C. Over time the weaving techniques became more elaborate as they began to spread to other areas of the World. The Turkish rug was originally created by nomadic tribes who needed to easily transportable ground coverings to sleep on in their tents, making these rugs some of the most durable.
